Pump Impeller under warranty?
My retailer says I cannot have a new pond pump impeller under warranty, is this true?
The impeller for the Laguna range of pumps, and for any other aquarium or pond pump is not covered by the warranty. This is because the impeller is classed as a wear and tear part.
It is worth remembering that the impeller is spinning constantly "24/7" and as such will eventually wear. In addition, if the filter sucks up a large piece of debris, substrate, gravel etc and this jams in the impeller then the impeller or shaft can break or be distorted.
For general maintenance, it is advisable to clean out the impeller periodically, it depends on the condition of the pond as to how often this should be done but generally at least a couple of times a season.
For maximum efficiency of the pump it is a good idea to replace the impeller as soon as there is sign of wear, either visible on inspecting the impeller or by a marked reduction in pump performance. This generally means around every year or two but again it does depend on the pond too.
Of course, if you have an issues with the pump other than with wear and tear replaceable parts, then these are likely covered by the warranty. So long as you have your proof of purchase and the pump is within this period, then the warranty remains valid. Simply contact your retailer or ourselves if you have any warranty issues going forward.
