Test Kit Waste Disposal
How do I discard used test kit water?
How do I discard used test kit water?
It is recommended that the waste waters from any water tests should be segregated into closed HDPE containers and disposed at local hazardous collection points. It is not recommended just to pour the results into the same container, each should be stored separately. Since some of the compounds are not friendly to the environment, it is best to save the water used in the test tubes and dispose if it as per your local and municipal regulations for elimination of toxic wastes.
As shown in the table below, not all the waste from test kit results are truly harmful to the environment. The dilution of the compounds in the test water of the tests under the "Safe to Flush" column makes the danger to the environment extremely low.
The most important compounds to keep out of the waste water disposal are the results of the Freshwater Ammonia, Carbonate Hardness, General Hardness, Nitrate and Phosphate test kits.
