Leaking Top Frame
My aquarium has started to drip water from the top frame? What should I do?
My aquarium has started to drip water from the top frame? What should I do?
The most likely cause is that there has been an excessive amount of condensation building up in the canopy of the aquarium. If this happens, then eventually the water will find any escape route, through even the tiniest break in the silicone adhesive around the top frame, and this is when you will see small droplets of water.
To eliminate the build up of condensation, you may wish to try the following (where appropriate),
1. Slightly lower the level of water in your aquarium.
2. Slightly decrease the temperature of the aquarium water, or increase the ambient room temperature, to more closely equalise the two.
3. Re-position any "lively" air sources such as air stones or filter output nozzles if they are directed at the top frame.
4. Vent the top frame, by slightly opening the rear flap, to allow the build up of condensation to escape.
If these suggestions fail to solve the issue, then it is possible to re-seal the top frame by removing it, removing any old sealant and then re-applying a liberal coating of new aqaurium sealant. This will NOT invalidate your warranty should it fail to seal the frame successfully. However, this may be preferable to having to exchange the entire tank and move over its' contents.
If all else fails, then you should contact your aquatics retailer and ask them to exchange the aquarium for you. You will need to provide your proof of purchase for this.
