Municipal Water Not Safe for Fish
If my tap water is safe to drink, why are my fish at risk?
If my tap water is safe to drink, why are my fish at risk?
Environment Canada standards for chlorine levels safe for aquatic life are far lower than the levels which water purification plants typically achieve at the tap. The aquatic life standard for copper is .002 to .004 mg/L, whereas the standard for potable water is 1 mg/L or less. Municipalities can perform repairs or improvements to the water system, resulting in metals and other impurities entering the aquarium. It is highly advisable to avoid this type of risk.
