When I buy cryptocorynes they seem to almost always die off within the first few weeks. What can I do to avoid this?

When I buy cryptocorynes they seem to almost always die off within the first few weeks. What can I do to avoid this?
It is normal for most species of cryptocorynes to lose leaves when transferred. You will notice that the root structure generally remains strong. Contrary to popular belief, they do relatively well at higher carbonate hardness values. Make sure to plant them out of bright light and be patient, they sometimes require up to 4 or 5 months to really start growing. Most species are quite slow growing and should be provided with essential micro-nutrients and trace quantities of macro-nutrients. They prefer a finer grade of substrate.
