No Switch on Glo HO Canopies
Why is there no switch to turn a Glo HO canopy on and off
Why is there no switch to turn a Glo HO canopy on and off
There is no switch due to issues in obtaining various electrical approvals worldwide. Since the unit does have the possibility of falling into an aquarium, the possibility of using a switch on the actual strip light itself is not allowed by many electrical approval agencies. The same thinking applies when electrical agencies are dealing with a switch on the actual line cord as well. Since they do not have any control over how this unit might be installed, they are very careful to ensure there is no electrical weakness in the line cord itself, thus eliminating the possibility of adding a switch in the line cord itself.
We have found that many advanced users find a switch to be a problem for them anyway as many prefer to operate a light such as this with a timer to more closely simulate the actual photo period and ensure consistency in the lighting duration as well. We do suggest the purchase of a simple and inexpensive mechanical timer. Besides the consistent light period offered for your fish and plants, we also highly recommend one to assist in energy conservation as well.
