Cleaning artifical plants and other decorations
How do you clean the artificial plants in the aquarium?
How do you clean the artificial plants in the aquarium?
Just like most of the other decorations, most cleaning of artifical plants of algae and other deposits must be done manually. Assuming these are the plastic or even the silk replica aquarium plants, the leaves can be rinsed and wiped with a soft cloth to remove algae spots and filiments and any other deposits that may accumulate.
For stubborn algae, a mild solution of vinegar and water is often quite effective. If you do use this cleaning solution for plastic plants (or for most of the surfaces in decorations for an aquarium), be sure to rinse the affected items thoroughly to ensure the vinegar does not get into the aquarium water where it can play havoc with your pH.
For rocks and other impervious decorations, stubborn algae can be bleached with a mild solution of chlorine bleach, but handle this with extreme care. Chlorine is deadly to fish and must be thoroughly washed off and rinsed away before any decoration is replaced. Do not use soap when cleaning aquarium decoratins, it is toxic to fish and can often leave traces even with the most assiduous rinsing.
