I've grown live plants many times but always seem to have algae problems. Is it because of the live plants?

I've grown live plants many times but always seem to have algae problems. Is it because of the live plants?
No, live plants effectively compete against algae for light and the same nutrients. However, it is possible to import algae into an aquarium on plant leaves, which can be the case with slower growing species such as anubias. Make sure that any algae bearing plants are avoided and always start a new set-up with faster growing species, such as varieties of Hygrophila, Rotala, Sagittaria, Bacopa or Ludwigia.
