What kind of media for Fluval external filter would you recommend for the aquarium with Amazonian Discus?

What kind of media for Fluval external filter would you recommend for the aquarium with Amazonian Discus?
Keep the water soft and acid with:
1) Peat Fibres and then when the water is the right softness and acidity;
2) Replace or start to use Fluval Peat Granules.

Otherwise, use the foam and the BioMAX for strong biology. They are both inert and will not change the chemistry, but they won't undo what you are attempting either. Since I am trying to color the water and infuse tannins with the peat, I would tend to forget the use of carbon which adsorbs those dyes and might work slightly against the water chemistry changes you are trying to effect. Carbon also removes trace elements when dealing with a planted tank.
