Elite Mini Filter - Aeration

I am running an Elite Mini Filter in our small aquarium, and it is filtering nicely. Unfortunately, I cannot get the aeration feature to work through the Venturi valve. The aeration line is always taking in water from the filter.

I am running an Elite Mini Filter in our small aquarium, and it is filtering nicely. Unfortunately, I cannot get the aeration feature to work through the Venturi valve. The aeration line is always taking in water from the filter.
The first thing is to ensure the air line is outside the aquarium so that it cannot draw water, but only air.

The aeration feature is a function of flow and pressure. A Venturi works by a water current drawing air into the stream as it passes an air hose connected to it. This is highly dependent on two variables, the depth of the water stream and the velocity of the water flow. If the filter is deeper than normal, the air flow can be inhibited or eliminated. Secondly, if the filter is not running with a full flow, the air may not be drawn into the passing current either. So, the first step would be to raise the filter in the aquarium so that it is closer to the top of the tank.
