Optimal pH for nitrification
What is the optimal pH and the limits for nitrification
What is the optimal pH and the limits for nitrification
The optimal pH range for nitrification is about 7.0 - 8.5. Outside of this range the efficiency of nitrification decreases. Nitrification has been reported between pH 4 - 5 but at very low rates {Prakasam et al., 1974. Proc 29th Ind. Waste Conf. Purdue Univ. pp. 497-509}. It has also been observed that nitrification can occur to the point that pH has been lowered to less than 6.
